Formlabs Introduces High-Impact Dental Resin for Permanent Crowns and Bridges

Formlabs introduced a new Permanent Crown Resin optimized for 3D printing long-term restorative dental appliances including crowns, bridges, and inlays. The material offers fracture toughness of 2.1 MPa√m and meets ISO 10993 and FDA guidelines for permanent mucosal contact.

Same-Day Dentistry Workflow

The new resin enables dental laboratories to produce permanent restorations in a single appointment, eliminating the need for temporary restorations and reducing patient visits. Combined with digital impression scanning and chairside milling, SLA 3D printing provides an efficient digital workflow for modern dental practices.

Mechanical Properties

Permanent Crown Resin achieves flexural strength of 140 MPa and flexural modulus of 8,500 MPa, comparable to lithium disilicate glass ceramics used in traditional dental restorations. The material exhibits low water absorption (0.6% at 24 hours) ensuring dimensional stability in the oral environment.

Color and Aesthetics

The resin is available in five Vita classical shades (A1, A2, A3, B1, C2) with natural translucency and fluorescence for aesthetic restorations. Post-processing includes standard UV curing and optional staining for precise shade matching with patient dentition.

Market Availability

Permanent Crown Resin is compatible with Formlabs Form 3B+ and Form 4B dental printers and is available through Formlabs authorized dental distributors. The company recommends using its Automatic Dam algorithm on Form Wash and Cure machines for optimized post-processing.
